FIRST IN EDUCATION
First In Education (FIE) is a reference to the innovative spirit of North Carolina, home to the first in flight. The Wright Brothers pioneered aviation by inventing, building, and flying the worlds first successful airplane, the Wright Flyer. They developed their mechanical acumen by working for years at printing presses, bicycle shops, motor shops, and other machinery businesses.
Similar to the Wright brothers, FIE encourages high school students to pursue jobs and trades that will provide experiential learning and education to give them the skills to create their own fruitful career path. By advocating for apprenticeships and internships, we are supporting North Carolina’s growing economy and improving access to educational opportunities, especially for first generation college-goers.
